In establishing Blackbird University, Blackbird fuses her online and in-person presence with accredited courses in artistic movement techniques guided by her life-long study in shamanism. Blackbird is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Sports & Performance Psychology, completing a Doctoral Project on Neurophysiology and a training manual that uses Dance to alleviate Youth Stress. #IMakeRockStars #BlackbirdMagic. She has created curriculum for colleges, multiple dance studios across the US and Canada, and codified her Blackbird Methodology into accredited certificates. She has choreographed and produced multiple ongoing series' of live music and dance shows, filmed projects, and makes rockstars, finding new talent and coaching them as Independent artists.
Blackbird is a College Professor in Dance with three degrees (PsyD in Performance Psychology, Master's in Education emphasizing Cultural Studies, and a Bachelor's in Dance). As a mother of two, she performed, choreographed, and taught across the US and Internationally for over 25 years. She has years of Choreography/Actress/Dancer/Model credits in fashion, major motion pictures, Bollywood, independent films, music videos, commercials, and TV. Blackbird has privately coached celebrity clients, has Executive Producer credits from various films with awards in the international film festival circuits, and has had many students succeed with acting, dance, modeling and music on "Gotham", "Glee", "Nickelodeon", Broadway and major feature films. Blackbird's influence includes a roster of thousands of alumni who now enjoy professional success in the arts all over the world, including many studio owners in the U.S. and Canada.
Blackbird is a member of the CID; Intl Counsil de Danse since 1992
(the UNESCO of the dance world.)
Healing certified, accredited through Sage Goddess since 2017.
Performance
After almost two decades of touring as a performer: including Off-Broadway musicals, Guest-Artist teaching residencies, dance and theater companies, non-profit artistic boards and studio ownerships throughout the US and Canada, Blackbird settled in Los Angeles. While on tour, Blackbird teaches different community groups to spread the joy, the love of dance and music, and especially to promote celebration of multiculturality in communities that may not otherwise have the chance to experience such genres or performances.
24 Blackbirds: the Musical
A family of colorful birds each takes life’s path in their own journey to find out what makes them fly. Using the Blackbird eclectic mixture of Afro-Modern Dance and fusing other cultural forms and original rhythms, it is a beautiful and personal reflection of cultures and relationships. Performed live music and dance- in excerpts or full version. Debuted at Carnival Feb 2014 – excerpt and full version at Hollywood Fringe Festival June 2014.
